Fedora install using zotero-snap --> standalone works with Google Docs Not LibreOffice

I like descriptive titles, and I think that is really it.

I installed Zotero onto a fresh Fedora 33 install and the extension is apparently there for the standalone to work with LibreOffice, but no it is not there in LibreOffice.

Tried removing and reinstalling Zotero. Right now I am working around with Google Docs, but not the best solution really for my purposes. Not urgent just annoying.

Used snap to install, each time there weren't any errors and update of my library went smoothly.
  • When you say "doesn't work" -- what exactly does that mean? Doesn't appear? Doesn't react? Throws an error?
    Generally see https://www.zotero.org/support/word_processor_plugin_troubleshooting#libreoffice

But also, the Snap package isn't maintained by Zotero, so also check is if this problem persists if you're just download & unpack the tarball and run ZOtero from there. If that works with LibreOffice, the problem is in the packaging and should be reported there.
  • Yeah that is not clear, sorry about that.

The toolbar isn't even an option and it is as though LibreOffice doesn't know it exists.

snap worked on both the previous Fedora and the live version I was testing before install, so it's strange that it is on the fresh install having an issue.

    Thanks!
  • It's possible this is unrelated to Snap -- just mentioned it as potentially relevant. Did you run through the troubleshooting for LO?
  • I just opened it from that tarball and it works fine. Is there a reason zotero does not support the snap version?
  • Just effort required -- it's fairly common for projects not to package for specific linux distros or packaging systems themselves; same is true for the flatpak and the .deb / apt version , though the latter is basically just a wrapper around the tarball, so is semi-official.

Also the Snap and Flatpak packages are sandboxed, which can break various functionality, particularly with plugins. I don't know about LO specifically — you'd have to ask the maintainers — but unless you know how to override the sandbox for your particular needs, we don't recommend using those packages, and it's why we don't produce them ourselves.
