Some PDFs not syncing to computer

Hi,

I've been running into this problem for a while now, where the majority of my pdfs aren't syncing to my desktop. Some pdfs sync just fine though, and there's no discernable pattern in which ones run into this issue. I'm using Windows 10 and Zotero Storage.

The pdfs in question do seem to be available on my Zotero web library, so they're uploading correctly. Here are screenshots of trying to open the file locally and online: https://imgur.com/a/19MqEhe

I've followed the instructions here to no avail: https://www.zotero.org/support/kb/files_not_syncing

The debug code for trying to sync and open the pdf is D485342971.

I've also tried reinstalling Zotero, syncing, and trying to open the pdf again with no success; the debug code for that attempt is D547357730.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

That file doesn't exist online. Whatever you're looking at online, it's a different file.

It looks like you were recently at your file sync quota, so files created on other computers likely just haven't synced up to the online library yet.

They appear to be the same file with all the same details (e.g., exact same date added) as shown in image 3 in the album linked above. Images 4 and 5 show the same thing happening for another item. Same story for several other pdfs I've tried (can find a pdf with the exact same info online that opens fine).

I'm not sure it's a quota issue, since there doesn't appear to be any pattern to which pdfs are affected. For example, the two items highlighted in image 6 (by Phillips and Nelson et al.) run into the syncing issue described above, but the four articles surrounding them don't. They were all added within minutes of each other on the same computer in 2019.

Thanks for reading--not a huge deal if this isn't fixable, just a shame to have to re-download these pdfs and manually link them locally

  • The "online" PDF in your screenshot is just at a remote URL ("citeseerx…") — nothing to do with Zotero Storage. I assume you're following the attachment URL, not actually trying to open the attachment file itself. The file is not online in your Zotero Storage.

You don't need to redownload anything. You just need to sync the files from the computer where they were added, now that you've increased your storage space. If that's not working for you, see Files Not Syncing.
  • ah, my mistake! Thanks for explaining (and your patience!)
