Latest version of zotero not syncing or communicating with word processing programs word 2008 or openoffice 3.1.1.

I believe the synching issues should be fixed in 2.0b7.1, which was released about the time you posted this comment. You can get the update by going to Tools->Extensions->Add-ons and clicking the "Find Updates" button.
