Sync 'Request Timed Out'

Hello,

I am receiving a sync time out error message when trying to sync my citations to a new computer. My error log ID is: D204672261
  • Are you connecting through a proxy and/or on some sort of institutional network, or running any third-party security software on your computer?
  • No, I’m connecting through personal ethernet connection to internet, and a personal computer with personal software. I don’t have any additional security software on my computer.
  • Can you provide another Debug ID for Zotero startup through a sync attempt that times out, using the "Restart with Logging Enabled…" option?

That's quite strange. I'm afraid I'm not seeing anything wrong on our end — the request that's timing out is a tiny, fast request, and it doesn't appear to be delayed on the server side.

It probably won't help, but have you tried restarting your computer?

If this is a laptop, are you able to try from another network to see if it still happens?
  • I was able to try to sync to a different computer- a widows, and it did work. That computer was on the same wifi network. I'm wondering if it might be a problem specific to macs? Does Zotero work with the new Big Sur OS?

Yes, Zotero is developed on and works perfectly fine on Macs, including on Big Sur.

@Chelly41190: This isn't really representative, but if you go to https://api.zotero.org/users/3738759/groups?format=versions in your browser, does it load, and load quickly? Do you see {} for the response?

Can you try in a new macOS user account? (You can delete it later.)
  • It works in the new user account!
  • And now it transferred everything over- thank you for this fix!
  • Well, that's not meant as a fix, though — you don't want to have two macOS user accounts.

So the next thing to try is just creating a new Zotero profile in your original macOS user account.
