Cite a forward of an authored book in APA7

Hi,
I'd like to cite a forward of an authored book. I can use a book section but it doesn't know to put the author of the book after the book title.

Using book section for forwards of an edited book work, but not for an authored book.

Any work arounds for this?
  • You can add a Book Author to a Book Section item the same way that you would an Editor. Zotero will format the citation for an authored book in that case.

Note that APA style technically says that you should not cite the foreword itself, but just the authored book itself and simply refer to the foreword in text. For example, “In their foreword to Jones (2020), Smith said…” or “Forewords have useful information (Smith in foreword to Jones, 2020)”. In the latter example, enter “Smith in foreword to” as a prefix to the citation. Personally, I think this requirement is silly and recommend simply formatting citations to sections of an authored book the same way as to an edited book. This is what Zotero will do if you add a Book Author to a Book Section item.
  • Thanks for this. I'll just cite the authors of the introduction in-text.
