Citations do not go after each-other and don't appear in the bibliography

Hello, could anyone help me with the zotero software. the citations don't go after each-other and don't appear in the bibliography. also when i insert the bibliography, the citation is just the number one which is underlined and does not correspond to the citation that i need.

please adivse me what i should do.

thank you
  • Could you describe step by step what exactly you're doing and post samples of what you're seeing in your document here? I'm not sure I follow.
  • I have the exact same problem. I go back to my document which contains already 99 citations and references listed, and suddenly (about a week ago) when I want to insert a new citation, it shows as "1" and it does not show in the list of references at the end. I tried multiple things (from restating everything, refreshing, synching to "saving as the document). Nothing seems to work. I use Microsoft word and Zotero stand-alone, adds on updated on 01/21.
    Thank you,
    Karina
  • That sounds like https://www.zotero.org/support/kb/existing_citations_not_detected but I'm not sure this actually is the same issue as above.

  • I do not think I can show you through pictures, but what I do is:

    1. I select a place i want to insert my citation
    2. I go Zotero (on my tab) --> Add/Edit Citation
    3. then i type the citation I need in the search tab that opens up
    4. I press enter

the result is always the number 1 underlined.
I tried everything and it does not work.
  • That does sound like what adamsmith linked to, specifically point 2.

Try also in a fresh document in the correct format.
  • No, what's going on for you is that you have automatic updates disabled in your document. Checking which citation number to use can be slow in long documents, so you were likely asked if you wanted to disable updates and wait until you were finished to do final numbering all at once. See https://www.zotero.org/support/kb/citations_underlined
