Zotero Tab Does Not Appear in MS Word and Unlinking Citations

Hello,
I am trying to unlink my citations from a word document (it has been shared with collaborators who do not have Zotero and have made changes, and it's time to just manually review everything). However, the "Zotero" tab no longer appears in my version of MS Word, and thus I am unable to access the unlink feature. I tried using a keyboard shortcut, but that also didn't work.
So I've tried to get back the tab in word, but haven't had success. I've tried going through the Zotero application to install it (it says it's successful but still doesn't appear in word), manually install the Zotero tab through Word start up, reinstall the Zotero.dotm, and reinstalling Zotero as a whole, and nothing has worked (based on these websites: https://www.zotero.org/support/word_processor_plugin_troubleshooting https://www.zotero.org/support/word_processor_plugin_manual_installation).
Preferably I would
  • Let us know everything you've tried from https://www.zotero.org/support/word_processor_plugin_troubleshooting#zotero_toolbar_doesn_t_appear, in your own words, and what happened at each step. (I know you listed the things you tried, but we'll need you to say what actually happened at each point.)
  • Yes.
    1) I went through the "Cite" pain and clicked install microsoft add-in, and it responded that it was successful. When I went to word, there was no sign of the Zotero tab. I did this multiple times, and sometimes it would say "reinstall" instead of "install"
    2) I went to the add ons for Zotero and disabled the "Zotero for Windows Integration". I restarted Zotero, Enabled it, restarted Zotero, and repeated step 1. It still said that it was successful, and the tab did not appear in Word.
3)I opened the word start up folder and copy pasted the Zotero.dotm file from the Zotero location, and this also did not work
    4) I downloaded the Zotero.dotm file from the website with the manual directions and copy pasted into both the Zotero location and word start up folder, which also did not work. At this point, I also retried step 1
    5) I reinstalled Zotero using the 2.IV. link from the website above, and repeated step 1. Also did not work.
    Thank you.

We need more details on this. How did you determine what the startup folder was, and what was the location?
  • I determined the start up folder by opening word, going to File>Options>Advanced>General (subheading)>File Locations > Startup (double click)

    The file path was:
    C:\Users\name\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Word\STARTUP
  • Is this an institutional computer or a personal computer?

If the former, your IT department may have restricted loading of Word macros.

But you should also follow these additional steps, linked from the section above, and let us know what happens:
