visual cues on library items

I adore Zotero and have been using for years, but now that I'm deep in the weeds of writing multiple grants and papers, it's becoming harder and harder to keep organized with the tools that are present. Having dozens of files to keep things sorted is just such a hassle and makes finding anything difficult.

Long story short, I'd pay money for a plug-in or feature that allowed me to color code items within a folder or attach some other visual reference for quick access of specific items. Think of it as having a binder of printed articles and being able to attach those little post it flags in colors by importance or some other metric.
