[Feature Request] Copy a citation to clipboard

I often have a situation where I'm writing an online post where I don't have or need Zotero integration, but I want to have a nicely formatted citation derived from something in my library. What I would like it the ability to right click a citation, and "copy citation to clipboard". Ideally I would then be prompted for the citation style I want, and the citation text string would then be copied to the clipboard. Is this something that could be implemented?

This already exists, and always has. You can literally just right-click on items, choose "Create Bibliography from Items…", and copy a citation or bibliography to the clipboard in a style of your choosing.

If it's something you're doing often in a given style, you'd want to use Quick Copy.
  • Incredible. This is exactly the feature I wanted! I wonder if a right click menu item for this quick copy could be added to aid discoverability since neither the shortcut nor the drag-drop functionality is particularly evident to users.
  • That already exists. See my edited comment above.
  • Great, thanks!
  • Sorry, joining years later.
It works but it pastes the citation into Word as pure text, so not connected to the library. Can this be changed so that it is linked to Zotero and thus be automatically be included in the final bibliography? Otherwise it's just a parenthesis with an author and a date.

I have tried changing the export options but it doesn't seem to work. Thanks!
  • @AlvaroDiezValle: No, that's not possible. To cite in Word, use the Word plugin.

  • Thank you @dstillman! I already use it, I just wanted to combine both functions becuase sometimes I am scrolling through the library and I find a source I want to add to the document, if I could copy also the "hyperlink" it helps save time having to insert the citation and find it again from Word.

    Thanks again!
  • If you don't already know about this feature, you can use the newly introduced "Selected item" in the citation dialog. Select one item (or more) in your library, it will be displayed first in the citation dialog. You don't have to find it again from word
  • Thank you @poettli. I was using this functions sometimes but for now it's a good compromise. I was looking for an alternative because maybe I am scrolling through notes and with this dialog I need to go back an select the whole item, and I cannot continue scrolling through the library, othwerwise it gets deselected. I guess you meant selecting the item in the library and when citing in Word the first result wil be the selected item? Thanks!
