Zotero not retrieving PDF information

Hi there, I am new to zotero and am having trouble with some of the pdfs that I have imported into my collection. They are academic articles with authors etc. (no DOI though) and ebooks. However, zotero does not recognize any of the info from the pdf and therefore does not create a parent item. I can manually create a parent item and enter info myself, but this isn't ideal. Any ideas? I have tried downloading from chrome and uploading them from my files..

are any of the PDFs that you think available online and could you link to them? Hard to say in the abstract. Generally, though, identifiers like DOIs and ISBNs are the most reliable way PDFs are, well, identified, so without them the process is indeed less reliable.
