alternative file syncing on Dropbox
www.zotero.org/support/sync says, "3. Finally, you can set the entire data directory inside Dropbox (or similar) and then use selective sync options to disable syncing for the data directory and then enable syncing of the 'storage' subdirectory," but I'm pretty sure in the case of Dropbox this is impossible.
Dropbox's "selective sync" is a binary switch for each folder, for which ON means syncing in the normal fashion, and OFF causes Dropbox to delete the local folder and retain only the online folder. The Zotero support file's suggestion requires the opposite behavior, retaining only the local folder, which Dropbox developers call "ignoring" folders. They do allow some arcane methods for marking a local Dropbox folder to be ignored, but there is no way to UNignore a subfolder (see help.dropbox.com/files-folders/restore-delete/ignored-files).

dstillmanI've removed that — thanks. I don't know why that was ever added — it would've been a risky, ill-advised option regardless.
