Zotero keeps citing journal articles as webpages

Hello,

I am currently working on Google Docs to finish a proposal and I noticed that some of the journal articles in the bibliography are cited in the style of webpages. I went back to my library and manually edited the error in article saving (changed the item type, added the relevant information like volume and issue, etc.) and then I clicked Refresh but nothing changed. I also deleted the bibliography and added it again but that also changed nothing. I went back to each location the article was cited, deleted it, then added it again and it remained the same.

Is there a solution to fix this that I am missing? I even closed and opened the desktop app again to make sure that all the edits I made to the articles' information was saved and there was no problem there.

Thank you
  • When you insert them in a new document, do the citations look correct? If so, then re-inserting them should definitely work. Make sure you select them from "My Library" and not from "Cited" in the Google doc add-on
  • @adamsmith Thank you for your quick reply.

I just tried them in an empty document with no previous citations and they still appear as webpages. I did make sure to choose from My Library in the original document and it made no difference.
  • Idk if this helps but the first image is a screenshot of the citation is the new document and the second one is how the article appears in my library. I tried deleting all links and access dates from the entries but they still appear in the bibliography.

  • That's not cited as a website but as journal article online. The Vancouver style you're using treats articles with URLs and without page numbers as Internet sources as per the NLM's citing medicine. You can add the article number (e6692) in the Pages field of Zotero to prevent that.
  • @adamsmith Thank you so much! I didn't even consider it would be the citation style because the issue didn't appear with other entries. I feel very stupid but very grateful as well. Thank you again!
