Online Library Won't Sync with Item Stuck in Desktop Trash

This merges two discussions. The first is removing items that get stuck in Desktop Trash. The second is Online database failing to sync because of "stuff" in Desktop Trash.

Symptoms: add/edit/delete in a Collection does not sync with online database. The desktop Sync button goes back to pause instantly, which means nothing was sent to sync. With online and desktop apps open side by side, you can validate changes are not being sent from Desktop.

Things to try:
1) Make sure you have enough online storage. You should get a message when you run out, but it never hurts to check.
2) Empty trash and try to sync again. If sync still fails, use step 3...
3) If there's still an item in trash, make sure it is collapsed. (Click the arrow to the left of the item title.) Empty trash again. Open any collection from MyLibrary, then open Trash again. Trash should be empty.

There are discussions about other sync issues, e.g., PDFs in notes, titles too long, issues with downloads/syncs from external sources. Check out those discussions too, if these three steps don't help.

Apologies if these steps don't work -- beyond my ken.
  • The desktop Sync button goes back to pause instantly, which means nothing was sent to sync.
    To be clear, if there's a problem syncing, you'll get a sync error, indicated by an error icon to the left of the sync button. Syncing doesn't just not work. If you click the sync button and it spins for a split second and stops with no error icon, syncing completed successfully.
