How to store a token for a plugin?

To access a particular API from a Zotero plugin (https://github.com/eschnett/zotero-citationcounts), users needs to obtain and store a token (see https://github.com/adsabs/adsabs-dev-api#access). How and where would such a token best be stored in Zotero? Is there e.g. a configuration file that Zotero uses where such a token could be added?
