Help! How can I find and add my old zotero entries after re-downloading zotero?

I've just got my laptop back from getting fixed, and they backed everything up and put it in a folder on my desktop. I re-downloaded zotero but now I really need the citations I already had - ?? The only thing I can find when I search zotero on the hard drive is a "zotero.dot" and I have no idea what that is or how to open it. I just want my citations; it's for my thesis! I think I have an almost up-to-date backup of them on a flash drive, but not quite up to date - and I don't know how to add them to my newly downloaded zotero either. All help much appreciated.

Are you sure they backed "everything" up? There should be a zotero.sqlite file. The default data directory is in your firefox profile. See:

After searching zotero.sqlite I found an old file - how do I make it back part of my current zotero?

Just realised I had fixed it by shifting the zotero.sqlite file to the place where the empty new one was, but just had to restart Firefox etc. for it to appear. Many thanks for the file name etc. :)
