Disable snapshots

I realize this question has been asked many times before (which makes it all the more surprising to me that Zotero hasn't made this easier already). How does one prevent Zotero Connector from downloading/saving snapshots? I tried going to Options > Advanced > Advanced Configuration > Config Editor and setting the automaticSnapshots argument to false. That stops the snapshots maybe 1/5 of the time, but most items I add still have snapshots attached. I want to disable snapshots for ALL items unless I specifically say that I want them. Is there any way to stop the snapshots???

This setting is in the Zotero desktop app (not the connector)—first option on the General pane of preferences
