Zotero 1 and 2 hangs with firefox 3 and 3.5

Hi,

I' trying to help my colleage install zotero, but it is not working. After installing the zotero button does not appear. Also if you select tools -> add ons and then click on the zotero options button, firefox hangs. This is under windows XP, and the same behaviour is seen with firexfox 3.0.13 and 3.5.4. Tried uninstalling and then reinstalling firefox, and also deleting "documents and settings\application data\mozilla" more than once. Strangely, after deleting it the plugins still appear in the ad-ons list, but still does not work.

Any ideas?

If you had actually deleted your entire Firefox profile, Zotero would not appear in the list. For what it's worth, you can locate the Firefox profile but using the Profile Manager, clicking Delete Profile, and, without actually deleting it, looking at the full path in the list.

You shouldn't really need to trash the whole profile anyway, though. In this case, it sounds like an invalid custom data directory might be set. Go to about:config in the Firefox address bar, search for dataDir, and right-click->Reset extensions.zotero.dataDir and extensions.zotero.useDataDir if they have values.

Since it sounds like you didn't actually delete the profile, you would also want to follow the usual troubleshooting steps once you actually locate it.
