Groups- repeatedly asked to Verify Email Address before creating Groups

I am trying to create a new Zotero group and keep getting a message that I must verify my email address before creating a group. I am logged in to Zotero, I follow the steps and get the same message again. No one at my institution knows why this is happening. Any help on breaking out of this loop would be appreciated.

    When you registered, an email was sent to your email address with a link to click on to verify your email address. You can trigger a new copy of this email from your account settings ( which that notification links to. You need to have at least one verified email address associated with your account before you can create a group.
