Zoteroconnect blocked by admin..solution?

Zoteroconnect is currently blocked by our IT security folks. Stated reasons is

"Allows synchronization of data to multiple devices which could lead to data spillage. "

We're a fairly large gov't research organization with many who would like to use Zotero. First, is the issue real and second, how hard is it to create a version of Zconnect that only saves to local machines and does not synch across machines? I'm currently able to keep working via the firefox zoteroconnect, but this might be going away.

Missed a few details. Zoteroconnect works in firefox, likely b/c I installed it before IT decided to block it. Downloading and installing it currently blocked for all browsers.
  • (To clarify, it's the "Zotero Connector", not "Zoteroconnect" or "Zconnect".)

See this thread, which cites the same stated reason. As discussed there, there's likely some confusion on the part of your IT department in terms of the difference between Zotero and the Zotero Connector, which makes it a little hard to discuss this. But you can read through that and post there if you have follow-up questions or comments.
