Using search opening up my parent Items

My standard presentation of my references is with only the parent item shown to get a better overview. That means that child items as notes pdf files etc is hidden unless I click the arrow on the references. However when I do a search, a lot of my references opens up showing these child items, which is quite annoying since I loose the genera view. Do I do something wrong or could I avoid these subitems?

It depends on the search mode you have selected in the search bar. In Title, Creator, Year mode, only top-level items will match. In the other modes, the child items will expand if they're the ones that match the search. You can click in the items list nad press "-" on your keyboard to collapse all parent items.

Although I would have preferred a setting where I could turn the collapsing as default, the short-cut really helped. Tx.
