email import?

I need a reference management system for my email. So far i haven't found a reference manager able to do this.

What i tried:

- save an email as eml file
- import eml file in zotero: file format not supported
- create new item of type email
- fill in meta data
- attach stored copy of eml file

Result: success

EML file extension is a popular file type for Email message. Others could be used, this is the only one i know.

preferred outcome:

- import eml files in zotero, create new item of type email, prefill meta data, attach eml file to item
- manually review and edit item
