Citation link to some specific new files not working

Hi, having downloaded the journal file in pdf, I link it to Zotero. So far so good. However, with some files I cannot call up the citation on LibreOffice ... I am presented with all other papers and authors but not the one I'm looking for. What could the problem be, please?
  • You can only cite regular bibliographic items, not attachment items. If Zotero wasn't able to retrieve metadata for the PDF, you'll need to download or create a parent item separately. See Retrieve PDF Metadata for details.
  • Thanks, but I have already retrieved the metadata. It is at the citation point that some individual items are not listed on the bar. It only happened for the first time about a week ago. Everything else is perfect.

Can you upload (to Dropbox or similar) a couple screenshots that show 1) the item in question in Zotero and 2) the citation dialog not finding it, and then provide a link here?
  • Sorry I haven't got a dropbox or similar ... On the LibreOffice document I press the Zotero 'add/edit citation' button. ... It's ok ... by putting the document title in the Red Lined Zotero Box in stead of the author D'Sousa, the document is displayed and I have managed to add the citation. Thanks for your help anyhow. Tim
  • ... probably a good pointer to anyone else who finds the same problem.
  • Does this only happen for authors with apostrophes in their name? That could be a clou
  • Yes, I think you are right ... the last issue was with O'Connell ... although it did not have a problem with O'Connor
  • It's likely just a question of the apostrophe used in the title — straight quote vs. curly quote. If you copy and paste from the author field, it'll likely match.

We'll see what we can do to match those regardless of which quote is typed.
  • Thanks ... I must say that Zotero has revolutionised my research and I am delighted with it. Thanks for all the work that goes into it. As my mother used to say 'you are marvelous!'
