Upgrade Storagecannot insert citation in Writer, only citation code, with a particular footnote style
I use LibreOffice Writer in Ubuntu Studio 20.04, with a customized template that includes a particular footnote style. This style allows me to insert simple footnotes, but I receive an error when I want to include a Zotero reference: a small Zotero Integration window appears with the message ”Zotero experienced an error updating your document. Would you like to view troubleshooting instructions?”, then the footnote with the reference appears with a blank line, then, on a second row, the {Citation} code.

You can work around it it by not using the Next Style property for your customized footnote/body styles.
You may want to comment on the LibreOffice bug and tell them you're also affected, which might make someone take notice and attempt to fix it. https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=124842
