Map in bibliography

Hi

I inserted some information to be associated with a map such as the map scale, its language. In the bibliography, Zotero doesn't add this information (the map scale, its language). How to add this information automatically in the bibliography? It should appear at the end of the citation.

Regards
  • Language never shows up in citations. Whether scale shows up depends on the citation style you're using. Which are you using?
  • I am using the style of "Geodinamica Acta".

Could we add the map scale at the end of the citation?
  • Can you give an exact example how this should look like? Ideally this would be an example from a published paper (from the .pdf).
  • Some examples are as in this guide https://www.tandf.co.uk//journals/authors/style/reference/ref_TIGR.pdf

Bayley, R.W., and Muehlberger, W.R., compilers, 1968, Basement rock map of the United States, exclusive of Alaska and Hawaii: U.S. Geological Survey, scale 1:2 500 000, 2 sheets.

I wish if we could add the map scale automatically in the citation.

  • Geodinamica Acta is an APA7 dependent. That's one for you, @bwiernik.
  • A few notes:

    1. The journal author instructions say that any format is fine, so long as the references include the author, date, title, journal/book title, volume/issue, and DOI: https://www.tandfonline.com/action/authorSubmission?show=instructions&journalCode=tgda20#ffs

The journal applies its own styling during typesetting. I would recommend just using the style as-is.

    2. In published articles, they seem to follow a (rather inconsistent) APA 7th edition style that looks nothing at all like the style guide linked to above. I think that that guide must be outdated (I also don't see it linked to from the journal's Instructions for Authors page): https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/pdf/10.1080/09853111.2020.1809824

References to maps don't seem to include the scale information generally in the journal. The style used in print is quite inconsistent in its formatting, with quite a few obvious errors, so it seems the journal doesn't care too much about exact formatting at any stage.

    3. APA style, which the journal generally seems to follow, explicitly doesn't include the scale information in map references. I would suggest just omitting the scale information or first confirming with the journal that it is necessary. Based on their stated "any style is fine" policy, I suspect it will not be necessary. If they come back requesting it, I can adapt the APA style to include it.
