locator types

Hello,

I have a general question. I'm currently writing a style sheet for drafts send to my workplace for publication and I am not sure about some locator types and their relevance for actual references (as opposed to their use in bibliographies).

Mainly I am wondering in what cases or for what item types the following locators would be used to make an in-text or note-reference:

- book
- column
- issue
- note (I assume for footnotes and endnotes in a printed work)
- part
- section

Many thanks in advance.

Daniel
  • I'd say most of these are fairly rarely used, but your style also doesn't need to predict how they're used

column: fairly common to describe location in reference works like encyclopedias
note: indeed, referring to a specific footnote/endnote
section: common in law to describe sections of legislation
book/issue/part: I've not seen used to be honest but I could certainly come up with scenarios where they're used.
  • Thanks a lot, yeah ... I've also managed to come up with scenarios now.
Sorry for late reply, I was away and then didnt look up my replies for some time.
    Appreciate it a lot,
    Daniel
