Word 2008 for Mac keeps freezing with Zotero 2.0 and plugin

I was recently using Zotero to cite references for a grant proposal that I was writing in Word 2008 for Mac (English), using Zotero 2.0. Ever since I installed the new plug-in, though, Word keeps freezing every few minutes and I have to force quit it to go anywhere. Incidentally, it also happened that my Excel froze. If I quit Firefox, it doesn't seem to happen, but that's inconvenient since I usually use Firefox while writing to look things up. It's definitely related to Zotero, because this did not happen before I installed the 2.0 and the plugin. Help?

    What versions of Zotero and the plugin are you using?

    I am using Zotero 2.0 beta and the alpha version of the Zotero 2.0 compatible Word 2008 plugin (as per the directions on this page under MacOS: http://www.zotero.org/support/word_processor_plugin_installation). I have MacOS X 10.5.7.
