Trouble with word2008 mac since microsoft update

I am mac user (zotero 2, word 2008 plugin).

Zotero was working fine.

Then, I have accepted to install the recent microsoft office update. Since that, the chicago style (full note with bibliography) does not work anymore. I get quite long error messages. I have tried other styles. Apparently, the problem is common to all citation styles that put the citation in footnotes.

I am quite stressed. Does anyone meet the same problem ?

Do you have this problem in new documents too? Are you using fields mode or bookmarks mode?
  • Yes : I have the problem in new docs.

I am using the fields mode (however I have no choice : it looks that the "endnote styles" (like chicago full note with biblio) do not let the possibility to choose the bookmarks mode).

I have reinstalled zotero, checked the authorisations of the mac, and reinstalled the zotero plugin for word. The problem is still there.

I get long error messages but unfortunately i cannot copy / paste them.

For some reasons I have the intuition that the trouble has to see with the recent microsoft update : the problem appeared just after it.
  • Can you take a screenshot and either post it somewhere and include a link here or send it to support@zot....org, with a link to this thread?
  • yes ! I have just sent two screenshots to support@zot.. !
  • We're not able to reproduce this. You could try reinstalling the update, but if that doesn't work, short of reinstalling Office itself, you might try closing all Office apps and then (backing up and) deleting the Microsoft folder and com.microsoft.* files within /Users/[home]/Library/Preferences/.

This would delete all of your Office preferences, so you'd want to be sure to back up first in case it didn't fix the problem.

If that doesn't work, you could try the same with the ~/Documents/Microsoft User Data, as long as you don't use Entourage (which stores its data in there). You'd have to reinstall the Zotero plugins afterward.

If removing any of these things does fix the problem, you might be able to selectively move stuff back.
  • thank you. I am going to try. But before I do : can you confirm you have seen the screenshots I sent to support ?
  • Yes, we have.
  • excellent : pb fixed

I have juste done this part of your advice :

"you might try closing all Office apps and then (backing up and) deleting the Microsoft folder and com.microsoft.* files within /Users/[home]/Library/Preferences/."

Now, I am going to selectively move stuff back. Do you suggest an order ? (I have lost all my word preferences and this is quite heavy in my case..). Otherwise, no problem. I want to thank you, Dan. Jerome
  • I don't really have an order to suggest, though certainly things like the custom dictionary and anything not related to Word should be fine. If it's one of the main plist files you may be out of luck.
