Adding Private Group Library feed to Zotero

I would like to create a RSS feed to be informed when a new document is added to a Private Group Library I own.

I have tried to follow the link "Subscribe to feed" in the web library, which redirects me to a page in order to create a key.

After that I get a xml file called "top" :
I have tried downloading this file in Zotero by clicking on New feed > from OPML file; and also tried by adding the link of this type :
https://api.zotero.org/groups/2536825/items?key=xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
In both cases, Zotero doesn't recognize the file/link and I can't add the feed to my Zotero desktop library.

However, when I add the link into Thunderbird's rss feed reader, it works.

Does anybody have a clue of why Thunderbird accepts the link and not Zotero ?

Thanks everyone in advance,

P
  • We'd have to look into that, but I'm not sure why you'd want to do this. The feed reader is meant for things like academic journals, where you can then click a button to automatically run translation on new items from the feed.

If you're already using the Zotero app, you should already have the group in Zotero via syncing, and you can just sort by Date Added if you want to see recent items. You could also create a saved search for items added within the last x days. And, of course, there's no need to have a button to add items to Zotero — and, in fact, doing so would likely result in incomplete items based on the zotero.org entry rather than the original source of the item.
  • Thank you very much for your answer.

What I was looking for by using the rss feed, was some kind of notifications from zotero when someone else from the private group library adds a document to the library; that way I don't need to check everyday if something was added.

If there's another solution to achieve this, please let me know.

    Best regards
  • No, nothing like that exists, though someone could write a plugin that did that. There's a decent chance we'll support some sort of activity feed within Zotero in a future version.

In the meantime, there are various ways to turn feeds into notifications of various kinds. E.g., if you use Slack, you can probably add the feed to get notifications there.
