no "Zotero Item Selector" in new PubMed Search Results pages- how fix?

edited July 19, 2020
In the new pubmed, run search
eg
https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/?term=hypertrophy+electrical+muscle+stimulation&size=20

and instead of getting the manila folder in the browser bar, to click and get Zotero Item Selector - in order to choose which papers in the search results to save to zotero - only the page icon shows up - the tool tip reads: "save to zotero (embedded metadata)".

this loss of Zotero Item Selection on search results only seems to be happening with the new pubmed - other indexes like google, acm.org/dl - still load the Zotero Item Selector for search results pages.

clicking on an individual item in pubmed and saving it works as always (yay)

This happens running the latest 5.0.8.8 and latest connectors in firefox and chrome: same thing on the lastes Mac osx (15.5.5)

have run the zotero troubleshooting, reinstalled a couple times, restarted each time, both zotero itself and the connectors.

the item selector is an awesome feature

help?

thank you

    @adamsmith: I already fixed this.

@m.c.vons: Thanks — a PubMed site update broke this. I've pushed a fix. Your Zotero Connector should auto-update within 24 hours, or you can update manually by clicking Update Translators in the Advanced pane of the Zotero Connector preferences.
  • thank you SO MUCH - i ended up doing the update in advanced, quit zotero, firefox after this; went to pubmed and yup the awesome SELECTOR is back.

really appreciate the speedy reply - and your work on this - you know @dstillman - i saw a post related to this from June 18 (below) where the person said they reinstalled the connector - and so i thought when i re-downloaded it, all would be well - - does this mean this pubmed break was more recent than june 18? (https://forums.zotero.org/discussion/83741/new-pubmed-interface-problems-with-saving-to-zotero)

no rush to reply just curious -

and is it recommended rather than going to the browser connector page like (https://www.zotero.org/download/connectors) - to use the "update" in advanced instead?

    Thanks again - awesome feature

  • Reinstalling the connector isn't necessary as a normal troubleshooting step and usually wouldn't do anything. This was just a site update — we added support for PubMed's new site right away, but they've made some minor changes since then (e.g., in this case, removing a "labs-" prefix from some of the code).

And manually updating translators isn't necessary either. Everything updates automatically. We just mention the manual updating immediately after fixing something, since you might not have the update to test yet.
  • thanks for taking the time to clarify - really appreciate the system - cool to know about the update process.

i was looking for a page that listed recent fixes (eg like this one for pubmed) to use before posting queries like this - i'm sorry if it's there and i've missed it - if there's a link that would be great to see.

again - thank you - hope the rest of your monday is safe healthy and not too fatiguing! go zotero go
  • It's meant for developers, and there's certainly no problem just reporting things here, but if you're curious you can see translator commits on GitHub:

    https://github.com/zotero/translators/commits/master

An upcoming update to the Zotero Connector will ensure that translator fixes are available immediately without waiting up to 24 hours. (The Zotero app already receives the updates immediately, but there can be a delay before the connector gets them.)
  • thank you again @dstillman - stay healthy!
