Highlights not saved

Hi,
I made some highlights in a pdf that was saved in my Zotero. I saved the highlights by just clicking 'save' when I was reading the pdf with mac preview. However, when opening the pdf afterwards, I see that most of my highlights are gone. Anyone know why this is and how to resolve? Is there a way to restore my initial highlights?

    Zotero itself doesn't have anything to do with your highlights — you just open the PDF in your PDF reader of choice (e.g., Preview) and save annotations back to the file. It shouldn't be any different from opening any other PDF on disk and highlighting it.

    If you dragged the PDF in from somewhere else on your computer (as opposed to, say, saving from the web with the Zotero Connector), make sure you were actually editing the PDF stored in Zotero and not the original one on your disk (which you should delete after adding to Zotero).
