Downloading metadata for an entire academic journal (multiple pdfs) at once

Hello,

I'm very new to using Zotero, so I apologize if this is a silly question, but I'm wondering if there is a way to download the data for multiple PDFs at once.

What I would ultimately like to be able to do is go to a website such as Hein Online (or another online journal database), open an issue of an academic journal, and instead of downloading the metadata for each article one at a time, I'd like to download the entire "table of contents", so that the metadata for each PDF/article shows up as a separate entry. I'm not sure if there are any online databases that would work with Zotero to do this?

Thank you!

This works for the majority of publishers, though don't overuse it: If you download issue after issue with this, journals may start blocking you.
  • What you want already exists for some journal publisher websites and online databases. Hein Online is a database that will limit the quantity of what you can download in a given amount of time. In your browser the save-to-Zotero button will often offer a folder icon instead of the journal article icon when you are on a table of contents page. Other icons may appear in other circumstances. If you or your institution have a subscription to your journal of interest you can usually easily capture both metadata and pdf. Unless the journal is open access (where everyone has subscriber privileges) you will not be able to automatically capture the pdf if you don't have subscription access. In any case you should have access to the metadata.
