Something wrong when citing interview in APA 7

I'm trying to cite an interview in APA 7 (in Finnish language). The interviewer is called S. Mishina and the interviewee is S. Ide. I choose the file type "interview" (in Finnish: "haastattelu"), but in the bibliography it says:

"Ide, S. (1994). A New Perspective on Women’s Language in Japanese: An Interview with Sachiko Ide (S. Mishina) [Kirje]."

"Kirje" at the end is a Finnish word for "letter", so it's obviously not right. Also the in-text citation says: "S. Ide, kirje, 1994".
  • Yeah, that's due to a hack used in the APA style to make it work in English, defining "letter" as "personal communication". What would be "personal communication" in Finnish?

But IIRC the right way to cite an interview formally published in APA (and most other styles) is to cite it as a (in this case) journal article with Mishina as the author and "A New Perspective on Women’s Language in Japanese: An Interview with Sachiko Ide" as the title.
  • Hmm, I suppose "personal communication" in Finnish would literally be "henkilökohtainen viestintä". Not sure if that's the traditionally used term in this context, but it's definitely better than "kirje", since the latter basically means a message inside an envelope.

But thank you, I'll change the file type to journal article!
  • @bwiernik -- not sure if you want to add the above translation to the APA style?

    Edit: I'll add that phrase.

Like adamsmith says, APA would expect this item to be cited as a journal article with S. Mishina entered as the author. See this item from the Manual for comparison: https://www.zotero.org/groups/2205533/test_items_library/collections/MR2N872S/search/on video/titleCreatorYear/items/WRYUUSNX/item-list
  • Thank you!
