Importing from or Editing citations on Google Docs/Microsoft Word

Hi there!

I am trying to import citations to my personal library from Google Docs or Microsoft Word which was already inserted by another collaborator. I have found similar topic here but the information no longer valid I suppose! https://forums.zotero.org/discussion/comment/357968

Ultimately, I want to edit a citation which was inserted by another team member.

Mendeley has a feature that asks whether you want to import the references that are not in your library. Do we have similar approach in Zotero? Or any other way to edit others' references in my Zotero.

A workaround is the toggle area codes and edit in the word processor. But this is not a convenient way.

Thank you in advance!

If you're collaborating with someone, it's best to do so from a shared group library. That allows you to edit the items in Zotero and have the changes be reflected in the document, no matter who originally added them.

To do a one-off import of references from a document, you can use Reference Extractor, but the extracted items won't be linked to the existing citations in the document, so you'd have to replace the existing citations with the extracted ones if you wanted edits to apply.

You certainly shouldn't do that if the other person will still be working on the document. The changes would just be reverted.
