Google docs + Zotero (speed up adding citations?)

Hello,

I have a Google doc which is 360 pages long so not necessarily expecting adding citations to be instant. Just want to know if there's a way to speed up the loading times for adding them, some citations can take anywhere from 20 seconds to a couple of minutes, some don't load at all leaving the {Updating} tag in the doc.

If it helps, here's the Debug ID: D1931805520
  • Little can be done. Every time you insert a citation Zotero has to ask Google Docs for certain information regarding the document and its citations, usually 3-5 times per citation. Google Docs needs to load up the document in their servers for each query. In your case this loading is most likely taking the bulk of the time you're waiting. Unless you need Google Docs collaboration moving to a local word processor like Word or LibreOffice would be the best solution to speed things up.
  • Thanks for the reply, will try moving to a Word doc. If I download the google doc as a .docx for example will the Zotero citations/bibliography still be linked, or would I need to insert a new biblography in the Word doc and add the citations again?
  • You'll need to follow specific steps in order to keep the citations active. Guide here: https://www.zotero.org/support/kb/moving_documents_between_word_processors
  • Great, just followed the steps and the citations are active in the word doc, thanks very much!
