Edit Citation Not Working

Hi there,

I've just updated to Zotero 5.0.87, but now can't edit a citation in Word for Mac. When I hit the edit button, the normal long red search box pops up, but the cursor has shrunk, and the field is blank - I've tried scrolling left and right and up and down. The footnote itself doesn't disappear though.

I've tried refreshing the links, restarting both applications, as well as manually re-installing the Word plug-in and re-installing Zotero. It's happened with existing links and new links, and on a variety of documents. I'm using Office 365 (version 16.35).

Grateful for any thoughts!
  • Does it work after restarting your mac?
  • What do you mean by "the cursor has shrunk" does it appear visually different from a regular citation dialog when inserting a new citation?
  • Thanks for getting back to me. Nope- doesn't work after restarting...
  • Yes - the cursor is visually different. It's still there, but it's about a fifth of the size, flashing in the top left of the dialogue box... When I press one of the cursor keys, it returns to normal size, but my reference doesn't appear in the box, so I can't click through to edit the citation.
  • Could you install the Zotero Beta and then produce a Debug ID from Zotero?

    1. In the Zotero Help menu, go to Debug Output Logging and select Enable.
    2. In Word press Add/Edit Citation with a cursor on an existing citation. Wait for the citation dialog to appear
    3. Before doing anything else, return to Zotero Help → Debug Output Logging and click Submit Output, which will disable logging and submit the output to zotero.org. A window should pop up containing a Debug ID. Click “Copy to Clipboard” and paste the Debug ID into this forum thread.
  • Thanks - I did the above and the edit citation worked perfectly... Seems to be ok with the Beta version, so I'll stick with that and post again if it happens again.

In case you need it, here's the Debug ID: D1816240901

    Thanks again

  • If it starts happening again please try to generate a Debug ID where you capture the problem
