Zotero slow to respond after attaching pdf

Hi all,

I had been using the Zotero Firefox connector to save references to my desktop Zotero, but experienced a lot of problems with that (errors saving, very slow processing) so now I save the reference using "add items by identifier" and then attach a copy of the pdf. After I attach a pdf, Zotero becomes very slow to respond. For example, I wanted to create a new reference and it took over a minute for Zotero to respond to the click on the icon. This doesn't happen during the first operation I perform after starting up Zotero.

I have saved my library to a network drive (so it's backed up) that I access via VPN, and I don't know if that could be the problem?

    Yes, storing your data directory on a network drive is the problem, and doing so is also likely to corrupt your database unless you're very careful to never leave Zotero open on one computer.

    There's no reason you shouldn't be able to use the Zotero Connector to begin with — that's the main way of saving things to Zotero.
