Something wrong w/ Amazon site translator?

Hi:
I haven't seen anything precisely dealing w/ the problem I'm having. I've always found it easy enough to search for a title on Amazon, hit the "book" icon or the "folder" icon, and save the cite to my Zotero library. But now, everytime I'm getting an error saying "Could not save item. An error occurred . . . ". I've gone thru the troubleshooting tips and everything seems fine. I'm having no problem saving from a library catalog. But I did go over to Borders.com to try, and there, i'm not even getting "book" icons to appear. Anyone know what might be going on? Thanks much!
  • borders doesn't have a translator.
Please post a sample URL from amazon.
    one post is enough ;-)
  • ah, well that takes care of the Borders question!

here's an amazon link that doesn't work for me:
    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0393061973/ref=s9_simz_gw_s0_p14_i2?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=center-2&pf_rd_r=0CD20F4W9BWB0GB2C1N4&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=470938631&pf_rd_i=507846

    thanks!
  • Thanks for the report. We've fixed the problem. Your translators will update automatically within 24 hours, or you can click "Update now" in Zotero preferences.
  • thanks so much!
  • Broken for me:

    Using Beta
  • actually seems to be any amazon, not just that one..
  • Ok, turns out.. I had my mac's clock dated back to May so that I could get a demo to work that had expired.. when I returned my date back to the current date it started working again.. Not sure if that's a bug or just something you are/should be aware of.

All the best and thanks for the product.
  • incorvia: You generally won't be able to connect to any secure site if your clock is off, and the Amazon translator connects via HTTPS. We'll see if we can display a more helpful message.
  • I have the same problem (get an error when I hit to book icon for an Amazon entry). My translators are up to date and my clock is property set (the apple server keeps it on time). Any other things to try?
  • It was a problem for all the books I tried. It works now, so perhaps I needed to restart Firefox after manually updating the translators?

The specific book I had trouble with was:

    http://www.amazon.com/World-Food-Problem-Toward-Undernutrition/dp/1588266389/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1252347340&sr=8-2

But, as I said, it now works.

    Thanks,
    rbt

    Hello:

I just downloaded Zotero on my Macbook Pro running Max OSX 10.5.8 and FF 3.5.5. I've tried accessing several sites with Zotero activated but my translators don't activate. I've followed the steps on the trouble shooting pages (deleting cache and library files) to no avail.

On amazon I accessed this URL: http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=halo+books&x=0&y=0

And on the NY Times: http://www.nytimes.com/2009/11/15/business/15digi.html?_r=1&ref=business

I just tested FF 3.5.5 and zotero 2.0b7.4 on a Windows XP machine and the same issue presented itself.

    Thank you for your time,

    Brent

Edit: I am using Microsoft office 2007 for Mac. And Microsoft Office 2004 on the Windows Machine.
  • Those pages definitely work, so it's a problem on your end. Are you waiting until the page completely finishes loading? Did you disable all other extensions, as the troubleshooting page advises?
  • Thanks for the quick response! Yes I allowed the page to completely load and I had no other extensions to disable. I checked the extension tab on both computers and Zotero was the only one present. I disabled items in the plug-ins tab as well.. But that didn't help.
  • Geese... Now its working. Thank you Dan.. I'm not sure what I did different now. I appreciate your patience.
