Google Docs Error

Every time I try to add a citation in my google doc it says there is an error updating my page and asks if I want to open the trouble shoot suggestions page. I have Zoterro opened in the background while trying to use it but I keep getting the same issue. I have tried logging out of my Google account, refreshing the document, closing and re-opening safari and I still get the same message.
