URGENT - unable to connect to files.zotero.net - cannot access PDFs stored in Zotero

Hi - I'm urgently seeking help under time pressure. We've been using Zotero for months, however just since Friday we are unable to open the PDFs attached to the refs (we get an error message "this site can't be reached".

Our IT consultants have said that there is an issue with the http certificate at your end for 'files.zotero.net' and that this needs to be fixed. (ie HTTP and HTTPS lookups for files.zotero.org fail)

We have not experienced this problem before, and need an urgent fix as we are preparing a Regulatory submission due this week.

How can we address this? I am in Melbourne, Australia.
  • There seem to be a couple different misunderstandings here:

    1) There's nothing wrong with https://files.zotero.net. The domain points to an AWS load balancer with an automatically maintained certificate valid from 5/19/2020 to 6/20/2021. If you're seeing an invalid certificate, it's likely that either something on your computer/network is intercepting and breaking your secure connections (security software, institutional proxy server) or you're behind a DNS resolver that's improperly caching domain records beyond their TTL and you're hitting an outdated AWS load balancer endpoint.

    2) files.zotero.net is used solely to view files via the web library. Inability to connect to files.zotero.net wouldn't in any way affect to access files via the Zotero app, which is the primary way you would normally be using Zotero. (But a problem with your network could certainly break Zotero syncing as well.)
  • Thanks for quick reply! OK, thanks, will go back to IT, must be an issue with our firewall or other security... Cheers
