Word file won’t open MAC OS MOJAVE

Please someone help me. I have a word document that I created and have been working on for the past few months. The document contains various Zotero in-text citations and it stopped opening all together. I encountered this problem a few weeks ago but after a few minutes the file finally opened. I contacted Microsoft support to see if they could provide answers but the technician said the file was most likely corrupted. When I try to access the document or open it from any source (via email or right click —> open/open with) the document is simply not able to be selected and the “open” option is greyed out. I am on a Mac and have tried everything, from making a copy of the document to trying to open it via google docs and even onedrive to renaming the file and making sure the zotero add on is enabled. I have no idea what else to do, please help I am desperate

    Sorry, we can't provide general support for Word. This doesn't have anything to do with Zotero.

    But if the file is corrupted, you'll need to use a backup.
