What causes corruption of bookmarks-style citations in word/libreoffice?
I'm trying to collaborate between libreoffice (on my end, version 6.4.3.2) and Word (collaborator, not sure exact version, but more recent than 2007), and had some issues with citations being corrupted in a docx. I've seen lots of talk in various places about how bookmarks are fragile, and can be accidentally corrupted, but I can't find any information about why/what kinds of changes are likely to cause problems/how to avoid problems. Can someone explain how the bookmarks work and how they come to be corrupted, so that we can avoid future problems?

bwiernikI’ve seen track changes, typing right next to a bookmark, and copying and pasting Text all cause problems with bookmarks, mostly in LibreOffice.
