Remapping attachment links after setting base directory

I am trying to help a person who just set up Zotero on a new Mac and realized her attachment links are broken. She never set a base directory on the old computer. If the old computer is still available, and she goes back and sets a base directory, will it change the full paths to relative paths for all things that exist within the base directory? Or does it only work for links created after the base directory is set?

If she sets the base directory on the old computer and then syncs that should work, yes. (If the old computer isn't available anymore, the Zuitilo add-on allows for bulk-updating linked filepaths)
