not getting the metadata from Google scholar

Hiya

I'm trying to manually enter information on my hundreds of saved pdfs of journal articles. I find Google scholar to be the fastest way to get a listing of an article I already have, I'd like to be able to just import that reference and then link it to my article on my hard drive.

But about half the time when I import the reference from Google scholar I only get the title and the author and not the journal title, volume, page, etc. It just has google scholar listed as the repository.

Is there any way to tell whether zotero will be able to get that information off a google scholar reference by looking at it? or do I just have to try it and see, and then re-enter the data manually if it doesn't work?
  • Google Scholar provides very limited metadata (e.g. author initials instead of full given names). Our translator can only scrape whatever data GS makes visible.

If you could provide a couple of examples of references that aren't working properly, we can look into refining our translator.
