Problem with citation style DIN 1505-2 (alphanumeric, German) and word integration

There seems to be a problem in the word integration plugin.
The bibliography is not generated and the trouble shooting dialog pops up.

Facts first:
Win 10 64bit in VirtualboxVM
Zotero 5.0.85
Word 2016 with latest updates
It is not occurring with LibreOffice.

It only occurs with certain citation keys of the format [xxxxdd] where x = a-f and d = 0-9. As soon as one x is not a-f (e.g. [aana00]) it works.

Steps to reproduce with my system:
- new word document
- set citation style to DIN 1505-2
- insert citation with certain key (e.g. [aaaa00] or [ffff99]
- results in word integration complaining about not being able to open file

[setText:\vboxsvr\adomas\zotero\word-for-windows-integration\build\zoterowinwordintegration\field.cpp]

The range a-f reminds me of hexadecimal numbers.
Citations of the aforementioned format worked at least in 2018.

Hopefully this information is enough that it can be easily fixed.
  • How are you generating the citation keys? using Citation label: aaaa0000 in the Extra field?
  • Thank you for your reply.

    The citation key is automatically generated from the authors names.
    If there are four or more authors it takes the first letters of the last names.
    For less authors also later characters are used.

    Abcd, Abcd, Abcd, Abcd, Abcd, 2020 -> [AAAA20]
    Abcd, Abcd, Abcd, Abcd, 2020 -> [AAAA20]
    Abcd, Abcd, Abcd, 2020 -> [AbAA20]
    Abcd, Abcd, 2020 -> [AbAb20]
    Abcd, 2020 -> [Abcd20]

    The extra field is empty.
