Error loading items list

I am relatively new to Zotero and it has worked fine for the few months that I have been using it but since last week I cannot access via the desktop link and get the message "error loading items list".

    This error means that Zotero isn't able to open your database. This could be due to security software interfering with Zotero (are you running any?) or something wrong with the file permissions in the Zotero data directory.

    There've been a couple recent reports of this, so it's possible something changed in some third-party software that's triggering this for some people. If you're able to solve this, we'd be interested to know how.
