BibTex import not working

The import button triggers the 'File open' menu from firefox, which asks whether I want to save or open the *.bib file. Whatever I choose (open, save, cancel), the import then stalls.

running Firefox 3.5.2 on Linux CentOS, zotero 2.0b6.4

any help greatly appreciated.
