Transferring files from an old mac to a new mac

I tried to transfer my files via sync...but for each 'pdf' document, it states that the file cannot be found. I initially uploaded zotero to the cloud and downloaded the folder to my laptop from there. Then I read a tech support post about the necessity of downloading the files to a USB drive and transferring them to the new computer that way. Did that... the zotero on my new computer still isn't recognizing this new pathway for retrieval of my files even thought it says

"The attached file could not be found at the following path:

/Users/amysalter/Zotero/storage/S8XHKTLW/15332276.2015.html

It may have been moved or deleted outside of Zotero, or, if the file was added on another computer, it may not yet have been synced to zotero.org."

Any thoughts about a solution of a new course of action altogether?

  • See Transferring a Library. Either of those options is fine, but syncing will only transfer all files if you upgrade your storage plan, since you're above your online file storage quota.

If the files are missing after copying the data directory, you either did it wrong or the files were missing on the original computer.
  • @dstillman thanks so much. I believe I did it wrong and will give it another try. Going to check out the link you shared now.
