Zotero storage folder empty

Hi, I'm new to Zotero and I'm moving from Mendeley. I've read some guide to setup my library but I'm not able to change the pdf folders. I would have like in Mendeley a folder with all my attachments (without using zotfile). I've changed in settings the storage folder to a custom folder but if I add a new pdf the folder still empty and the attachment is in the standard location. How can i do?

By default, Zotero stores files within its own data directory and manages (syncs, renames, deletes) them for you. If you want to use linked files and don't want to add them manually, you need to use ZotFile.

I'm not sure which "storage" folder you're referring to, but if you mean the Linked Attachment Base Directory, that doesn't control where the files are saved. That just lets you access linked files from multiple computers where the directories might be at different paths. You would normally use that in combination with ZotFile.
