Upgrade Storagemac Word 2008 insert bibliography not working

I'm writing my thesis using Word 2008 (version 12.0) with Zotero v. 2.0b6.3 (firefox 3.0.13) with plug-in 2.0a2 (i think). I can insert references just fine, but i just tried to insert a bibliography, just to test it out before i write too much without really keeping track of my citations, and all i got was this in the text:

and nothing happened. then i hit apple-tab to toggle between programs and what do i see but five little rocket ship shaped icons that are called Python open - i'm assuming this is the plug-in. so I opened the activity monitor to check the situation out, and yup - they were all reportedly "(not responding)".
do i have the right combination of plug-in/zotero?
