when I try to create a citation on google docs, it updates the document, but doesnt actually do anything. Zotero is still working on word, have tried removing and adding chrome connector

    Check to see if the citation dialog is behind your other windows. This can happen particularly if you minimize Zotero instead of simply bringing your browser window in front of it.
